During this week the topics spelling development and the stages of writing.
We learned that spelling is important to writing because it helps students to correctly assemble their words based on their phonetic characteristics which is an essential part of successful writing. Spelling ties in with writing skills, too, and it also serves to effectively convey ideas. This lesson helped to enhance my knowledge of spelling development. I learned that spelling is critical to writing because it helps students to communicate effectively and make connections between words and their phonetic characteristics. As a teacher, I will try my best to integrate spelling into other lessons and content areas. I will also try to incorporate spelling in various lessons and try to make sure that I do not simply resort to sending children home with a 'spelling list'. I will try to plan my lessons and activities in a way that helps students to apply their spelling skills and help them to improve as independent and skilled writers.
As mentioned before we also learned about the stages of writing. The stages of writing are important because they help students to write efficiently and at their own pace. Writing stages help to develop writers' potential no matter the level of writing that they are at. Students go through different stages of writing before they can actually master it and these stages include scribbling, letter-like forms and shapes, letters, letters and shapes, letters and space. These stages reflect a child's growing knowledge of literacy, including letters, sounds and spacing of words within sentences. It is important for teachers to know about the stages of writing because they will be able to pinpoint what stage their students are at and how to help them to move from one stage to another in order for them to develop as competent writers. Students will be provided with meaningful activities and instructions that will help to improve their writing skills.
Good evening. I read that youre goal is to incorporate Spelling in all subject areas, is it that you see an issue with sending home a spelling list with the children or the practice seems too "traditional"?
ReplyDeleteThe points mentioned are all valid and interrelated. Spelling is linked to writing and to all subject areas. It is also important that as teachers we encourage students to read in order to increase vocabulary. Additionally, different strategies can be used to teach students how to spell in a creative way. Hope you find some fun ways to teach spelling and writing
