lit 102 weel1 -26th - 30th October 2020 Blog by Corrie

During this week session in lit102, the class was assigned into groups, each group was given a topic that have to be presented as a powerpoint presentation on the five different genres of writing. The genres were narrative writing, persuasive writing, descriptive writing, expository writing and poetry writing.

The first presentation was done on Narrative writing. I learned that narrative writing can be non-fiction and imaginary. They explained the different elements of story writing which include the plot, setting, the theme, the point of view and the character. The presenters also outlined that Narrative writing is a way of presenting connected events in order to tell a good story. common types of narrative normally contain a beginning, middle and end. They spoke about the different conflicts that can be found in narrative pieces such as conflict between a character and nature, conflict within a character, conflict between a character and society, conflict between characters and conflict between a character and the supernatural.

The other topic was Expository writing. Expository writing defines and explains a process. The presentation stated that expository writing is structured out as followed:

- Introductory or lead paragraph invites the reader to explore the topic

- Thesis Statement reveals overall purpose of the writing

-Body consists of three or more points, descriptions

-Conclusion

Exposition is a type of written or oral discourse that is used to explain, describe, give information, or inform. The presenters also stated this type of writing as process writing. This allows the teachers and students to go through the process of producing a text together. In process writing students have the chance to think about what they are going to write, produce, drafts, revise, edit and give and receive feedback on their work before coming with the final version of the text.

Both presentation were very informative and had information that will be beneficial to take back to the school and help teachers and students to become an effective writer's.
